On December 29, 2014, police responded to a call of a reported domestic dispute at Jermaine Cunningham's apartment in Summit, NJ. Cunningham was arrested and charged with third-degree invasion of privacy under what is colloquially known as New Jersey's "revenge porn" law, for posting photos of his girlfriend's inner thigh, groin, and backside on Instagram and tagging her in them without her permission. He was also charged with third-degree criminal mischief for the destruction of clothing and fourth-degree unlawful weapon transport for keeping a handgun in the glove compartment of his Audi.According to court documents obtained by Broadly, in May 2015, Cunningham pleaded guilty to third-degree invasion of privacy and fourth-degree unlawful transport of a weapon and possession of hollow-point bullets. In June 2015, Cunningham was sentenced to undergo anger-management counseling and serve three years of probation. The NFL suspended him for six weeks. He had become an unrestricted free agent in March 2015, after spending the 2014 season on injured reserve for the Jets.Cunningham declined Broadly's request for comment.
