VICE Sports World News Roundup: June 23

Our daily morning roundup of the sports news from around the world.

Good morning, America. Welcome to the worldwide morning news roundup. With three international tournaments happening at once, we have a lot of soccer for you today.

El País Uruguay has an interesting piece on the financial issues faced by CONMEBOL, the governing body of South American soccer. Due to the bank freezes associated with the ongoing U.S. Justice Department investigation into FIFA corruption, CONMEBOL is short on cash. Where will it find the $10 million prize pool it has promised the top teams at this year's tournament?

Abu Dhabi Ocean Racing won the Volvo Ocean Race. Beginning on October 2nd, seven teams competed in the round-the-world sailing race. Team SCA, the first women's team to compete on equal terms as the rest of the field (previous women's teams raced in older, slower boats), took first place in leg 6 before finishing 6th overall. (Read more about Team SCA here.)

Wimbledon's qualifiers became a family affair. Former 8th ranked singles player Jürgen Melzer played his own brother. Jürgen, the elder of the two Austrians, beat Gerald in straight sets.

In the Women's World Cup, the U.S. beat Colombia 2-0 and England upset Norway 2-1. The U.S. will face China in the quarterfinals. England will take on tournament hosts Canada.

If this score holds, the England women will have reached the World Cup quarterfinals three times since the men last did…

A 16-year-old French shortstop named Melissa Mayeux made history when she was added to the Major League Baseball international registration list. Mayeux is believed to be the first woman to have ever made the list.

If you haven't already heard, P. Diddy was arrested in Los Angeles for apparently attacking the strength and conditioning coach for the UCLA football team with a kettlebell. Diddy was apparently upset about something that had gone down between his son—a UCLA player—and the coach. There are lots of questions here: What weight was the kettlebell? Why was it in the man's office? Did P. Diddy wield it with proper Crossfit form (Back arched, thrusting with the hips)? I'm sure TMZ will have answers soon enough.
