Waiver Wire Workout: Week 14

This week, take a look at some young and raw receivers with big time potential, and try to fill in the gaps left behind by a rash of injured tight ends.

Because league formats vary, one size doesn't fit all when it comes to your waiver wire. That's why I break possible free agent adds into three categories. Follow me on Twitter for the latest on possible additions to your fantasy roster.

Addable In All Leagues

DeVante Parker, WR, MIA (owned in 30% of Yahoo leagues). Parker makes the jump from "speculative" to "all leagues" by virtue of a couple catches Sunday against the Ravens. On the first, he ran a deep post and simply blotted out the sun for a touchdown; no defensive back could've handled him one-on-one on that route. Parker's second catch clinched the game for Miami: a tough cross on which he took a big hit. I don't think Parker is startable in too many situations right now. But he's the kind of big-bodied kid who could catch fire over the next week or two, leading you to feel okay about taking a chance on him in your fantasy championship if you need him.

Dorial Green-Beckham, WR, TEN (14% owned). File DGB in the same category as Parker: a rookie who's come on lately, has a great size/speed combo and features almost unlimited ceiling. Green-Beckham also has stone hands, as evidenced by the Marcus Mariota pass that smashed into hands and then right into to a defender's on Sunday. But like Parker, Green-Beckham is on a bit of a roll and he's got the ceiling to help you eke out fantasy playoff wins if you're a big-time underdog.

Austin Seferian-Jenkins, TE, TB (36% owned). Hey, we're in the fantasy playoffs, so we're not messing around at the edges of your team. We're looking for players who, if everything went right for them, could alter your results. And ASJ fits that bill. He finally returned to action Sunday after missing nine straight games, but he only played 19 snaps. That number will increase going forward, and Seferian-Jenkins is a huge guy who moves well. He could become Jameis Winston's security blanket down the stretch.

Lions Defense (9% owned). To me this is a no-brainer. The Lions have played well on defense for the past month, and if their spirits aren't crushed by the Hail Mary loss last Thursday, traveling to St. Louis sounds like a recipe to continue their streak of quality play. Darius Slay is a top-10 NFL corner. Add to him a a defensive front that consists of guys like Ziggy Ansah, Stephen Tulloch, a resurgent Haloti Ngata, and a good supporting cast, and you have yourself a start worthy unit no matter who the Rams start at quarterback.

Players listed in previous weeks who are still addable in all leagues: James White, RB, NE (27%); Charles Sims, RB, TB (28%); Duke Johnson, RB, CLE (47%); Theo Riddick, RB, DET (29%).

Speculative Adds

Owen Daniels, TE, DEN (32% owned). Vernon Davis suffered a concussion Sunday and could miss time. If that happens, Daniels—an uninspiring player at this point in his career—gains some short-term appeal for those teams who are missing Rob Gronkowski, Jimmy Graham and Tyler Eifert. Brock Osweiler played close to the vest Sunday and has targeted tight ends 27 times the past three weeks. If that workload all goes to Daniels, he could be a fantasy factor.

Tyrod Taylor, QB, BUF (36% owned). He's back, and he brought his legs with him. Taylor doesn't inspire me as a thrower; he's jumpy in the pocket and pretty much excels at throwing deep jump balls. But as a runner, he's more than a handful, and he proved in Sunday's win over Houston that his injured knee is healthy. Taylor was positively Russell-Wilson-esque in this game, making Texans defenders look silly while avoiding the rush. If you can get a running TD out of him here and there, Taylor's worth adding.

Terrance West, RB, BAL (2% owned). While Javorius Allen has taken the lead job in Baltimore's backfield, West has carved out a minor role, having played 12 and 14 snaps in the Ravens' past two games. To me, that indicates he's probably Buck's handcuff, and he might get a pretty major workload should Allen go down over the next weeks.

Players listed in previous weeks who are still speculative adds: Jay Cutler, QB, CHI (46%); Jameis Winston, QB, TB (40%); Brock Osweiler, QB, Broncos (23%); Jay Ajayi, RB, Dolphins (17%); Joique Bell, RB, DET (26%); Brandon Bolden, RB, NE (12%); Robert Turbin, RB, DAL (6%); Cecil Shorts, WR, HOU (12%); Nate Washington, WR, HOU (22%); Tyler Lockett, WR, Seahawks (20%); Keshawn Martin, WR, Patriots (7%); Dontrelle Inman, WR, SD (14%); Rueben Randle, WR, NYG (37%); Jacob Tamme, TE, ATL (40%); Richard Rodgers, TE, GB (42%); Crockett Gillmore, TE, BAL (29%); Heath Miller, TE, PIT (28%); Zach Miller, TE, Bears (15%).

Deep-League Adds

Fitzgerald Toussaint, RB, PIT (0% owned). I've been putting Jordan Todman on the "speculative" list for the past few weeks, because I've been assuming that he's DeAngelo Williams' direct backup. Not so fast, my friend. The unheralded Toussaint—who flamed out late last year in an audition with the Ravens—was the first man off the bench subbing for D-Willy Sunday night. Now I don't know what to think. Williams is in such a valuable role, I'd definitely like to own his backup. But with Toussaint on the scene, can it be said that D-Willy has just one backup?

Blake Bell, TE, SF (0% owned). Garrett Celek is out with a high-ankle sprain and Vance McDonald left Sunday's contest in Chicago with a concussion, which could leave converted collegiate QB Bell as Blaine Gabbert's prime tight end target. Considering Gabbert does like to check it down, Bell has a hint of flyer appeal in a very deep league.

Players listed in previous weeks who are still addable in deep leagues: Chris Thompson, RB, WAS (5%); Jonathan Grimes, RB, HOU (2%); Chris Polk, RB, HOU (3%); Jordan Todman, RB, PIT (1%); Tim Hightower, RB, Saints (0%); Dan Herron, RB, IND (11%); Jamison Crowder, WR, WAS (12%); Dwayne Harris, WR, NYG (21%); Cody Latimer, WR, Broncos (1%); Jeff Janis, WR, Packers (0%); Luke Willson, TE, SEA (3%); Will Tye, TE, NYG (2%); Jesse James, TE, PIT (1%).
