During a recent volleyball match between Georgia Southern and Troy, someone thought there was plenty of time in the broadcast for a quick "little" 9-11 joke. That someone was Tricia Fishbune—a reporter and color commentator for Georgia Southern athletics—who really went out of her way to get there.Going into the match, Southern's Cathrine Murray had 911 kills. Clearly, that's when the window of opportunity opened:
If you're going to go for a 9-11 joke, you best not miss. Unfortunately, this was a huge whiff and just bad. Her apology wasn't much better:"She has 911 kills. So she's only 65 kills away from cracking the top 10 in school history and, um, just to note…911…you know, 9-11…so uh…kills…that was, you know 9-11…kills…a little joke."
"Poorly phrased" and "erroneous wording." Those are two ways of describing it, sure. Another might be "an extremely bad idea." Either way.
