Wade Into Buzzy Guitar Waters With Jacky Winter’s ‘The Nails’

Jacky Winter's new video features Melbourne institutions the Tote front bar and Vince and Dom’s barber shop.

When he's not cleaning the Tote toilets, Phil Gionfriddo creates buzzing atmospheric rock as Jacky Winter. The Melbourne songwriter has done time in bands such as Dynamo, Chrome Nips and Bowers but his most recent musical project was born after he became obsessed with Wu-Tang Clan's 36 Chambers, bought a MPC machine and started recording songs in Melbourne and New York City.

The Nails EP that was released in 2015 features Phil's ear for melody as well as fearless exploration and experimentation. After a recent cleaning shift Phil gifted us the new video for the title track of the EP.

Shot and recorded live on 16mm film by Rob McCafferty at Melbourne's TFS Studios, the video features Phil teaming up with Erica Dunn from Palm Springs and Paul Pirie from Batpiss.

It also features Melbourne icons the Tote front bar and Vince and Dom's barber shop as well as some pretty tidy guitar work.

The video coincides with the launch of the Jacky Winter 12" vinyl LP on Very Rare Animals (NYC).

'The Nails' EP is available now on Very Rare Animals.
