The Clean for the Queen campaign was at the centre of a miniature row about missing out a "k" and using the racially derogatory word "spic" in a promotional poster that read: "Spic and span, ma'am."

Last week someone on Twitter first pointed out the poster's spelling choice, but on Sunday the clean-up campaign director denied it offensive or racist. "It is an ancient phrase, according to the Oxford English Dictionary, which suggests two options on spelling," he told the Mail on Sunday.

In the US, the word "spic" is a derogatory term for Spanish-speaking Latin Americans.

Two men stole a fire engine and crashed it into a series of cars on a residential street in Northern Ireland before slamming it into a front garden at about 4:30AM on Saturday. No one was seriously hurt.

The men, 66 and 19, reportedly stole the fire engine from Larne fire station in County Antrim before losing control of the car on a road dotted with terraced houses.

One man, whose car was side-swiped in the accident, said he heard a bang and saw flashing lights and what appeared to be a fire engine already on the scene. "We were thinking again there is obviously a reason for it, but then realised the fire engine has got here far too quickly," he told the Independent.

Larne police were still looking for more information on the crash, as of Sunday evening.

Three teenagers allegedly nicked someone's hoverboard, after asking to "have a go" on it

Three teenagers took someone's hoverboard in Hertford's Hartham Common on Friday afternoon, according to the local Hertford press.

The former hoverboard owner was apparently in the common, riding his hoverboard, when he was approached by three people – one of whom asked if he could "have a go" on the board, before taking it and running off "towards the leisure centre".

The police are currently looking for two men and one woman in connection to the theft.

Morrissey was reportedly invited to be the Animal Welfare Party's London Mayoral candidate, according to his fan site True for You. So far, there's been no public confirmation of this from the Animal Welfare Party, but that didn't stop Mozzer writing a a response to a position that he was apparently "considering very seriously".

He moved quickly from the context of animal welfare groups to suggesting chef Jamie Oliver's children be served as food.

"There must be a governmental voice against the hellish and archaic social injustice allotted to animals in the United Kingdom simply because those animals do not speak English," he wrote, "otherwise millions of very caring citizens are greatly concerned about issues that no one is able to do anything about."
