NFL Waiver Wire Workout: Week 13

Fantasy football expert Christopher Harris runs down the best free agent adds for your fantasy roster in Week 13.

For fantasy football advice based on film review every single weekday from now until 2017, listen to the Harris Football Podcast at www.HarrisFootball.com, which won the Fantasy Sports Writers Association podcast of the year award for 2015.

Because league formats vary, one size doesn't fit all when it comes to your waiver wire. That's why I break possible free agent adds into three categories, all of whom are available in fewer than one-third of Yahoo! leagues. Follow me on Twitter for the latest on possible additions to your fantasy roster.

Addable in All Leagues

Vernon Davis, TE, WAS (9% owned). I don't advocate handcuffing tight ends, but in Jordan Reed's case I'll make an exception. Reed has been spectacular, but he suffered a separated shoulder on Thanksgiving and is at best questionable for Sunday's tilt in Arizona. Davis covers your bacon. In games where Reed hasn't played this season, Davis has run 30-plus routes and turned back the clock. He'll be inside my top ten TEs for Week 13 if (as I expect) Reed sits.

Colin Kaepernick, QB, SF (24% owned). Habitués of this column have seen Kap hanging out in the "Speculative" section for more than a month. It's time to give him an upgrade. Yes, he played well against the Miami Dolphins; he didn't crush your soul with interceptions or wildly overthrow every receiver in his purview. Unfortunately, that will always be on the table with Kaepernick—but so is the zone-read, which the Niners ran more than ever in Week 12. The Chicago Bears have been better on defense, but they will be missing both starting middle linebackers on Sunday. Kap has revolting passing downside, but his rushing upside makes him stream-worthy.

Quincy Enunwa, WR, NYJ (28% owned). The Patriots must have left Week 12 wondering why the Jets didn't keep throwing to their outside receivers. In the first half, Brandon Marshall was good even with top corner Malcolm Butler on him, and Enunwa had five catches on five targets, including one perfectly thrown over-the-shoulder grab. And yet in the second half, the Marshall/Enunwa combo—which had caught ten of 11 targets combined—only saw five targets. Fortunately for Enunwa, one of those was a sweet TD grab where he got one butt cheek into the corner of the end zone. He's a moose, and a legit heir of a Marshall-style role someday. Against the Indianapolis Colts in Week 13, he just might be flex-worthy.

Chargers Defense (20% owned). Oops. If you've been streaming defenses, Week 13 might leave you cold, as there aren't any lightly owned defenses playing against obviously terrible offenses. I get it if you're tempted by the Green Bay Packers D/ST facing Brock Osweiler at home, but for me Monday night's decent performance doesn't cure all ills. The Atlanta Falcons could be OK at home against the Kansas City Chiefs, who don't usually go for the scoreboard jugular, but Adrian Clayborn is out and I don't trust Atlanta's secondary. So I'll fall back on a defense I just think is playing well: the Chargers, who contained Lamar Miller last week without stacking the box and who have made big plays the past month. Don't love 'em against the Buccaneers, though.

Players listed in previous weeks who are still adds: Kenneth Dixon, RB, BAL (29%).

Speculative Adds

Malcolm Mitchell, WR, NE (3% owned). Mitchell is starting to get that glimmer about him: a rookie who's figuring things out. Granted, some of his Week 12 production can be explained by both Rob Gronkowski and Martellus Bennett being injured, but Mitchell is sharp to the ball, and he has good body control and awesome hands. He was a few inches away from his third touchdown Sunday, which would have been his fourth in two weeks. The kid hasn't played a full complement of snaps yet and Tom Brady spreads the love, but speculatively, getting on board now might make sense.

Ryan Fitzpatrick, QB, NYJ (16% owned). If you're streaming quarterbacks, Colin Kaepernick should be your first call, but Gum-Chewing Yosemite Sam should be second on your list. He's hot-and-cold, but he gets a beaten-up Colts defense Monday night; if Vontae Davis isn't himself, Indy has a hard time covering a twin bed.

Taylor Gabriel, WR, ATL (6% owned). Gabriel is 5'8" and 165 pounds, which is why I've resisted putting him on the list to this point. Like, I'm worried he can't handle big volume without getting smooshed. But he's found the end zone in four straight games! A lightning bug who's a nightmare in the open field, Gabriel borders on being relegated to "gadget" status, and we've probably already seen his best, but at some point maybe betting against winning streaks is dumb! Why am I shouting!

Ameer Abdullah, RB, DET (11% owned). Reports on Abdullah's possible return from a sprained foot are all over the map, but the Detroit Lions would love to have him. They're the NFC North leaders and eying a playoff spot, and they need all the playmakers they can find. For fantasy owners, stashing Abdullah could be more of a headache than it's worth because how many good games would you need to see before you could start him? But better you put him in deep freeze than someone else adding him and beating you in Week 16.

Charles Sims, RB, TB (10% owned). Sims is eligible to return from his injured knee in Week 14, and Tampa is fighting for a playoff spot, too. He'll be back against the New Orleans Saints' improved defense and will probably play one-third of the Bucs' snaps spelling Doug Martin. PPR owners looking for a lucky break could give him a shot.

Players listed in previous weeks who are still speculative adds: DeAngelo Williams, RB, PIT (22%); Alfred Morris, RB, DAL (12%); Chris Thompson, RB, WAS (24%); Damien Williams, RB, MIA (4%); Mike Gillislee, RB, BUF (29%); Jacquizz Rodgers, RB, TB (23%); Alfred Blue, RB, HOU (2%); Jeremy Langford, RB, CHI (28%); Paul Perkins, RB, NYG (18%); Kapri Bibbs, RB, DEN (11%); Andre Ellington, RB, ARI (3%); Ka'Deem Carey, RB, CHI (1%); Brandon LaFell , WR, CIN (18%); Pierre Garcon, WR, WAS (33%); Anquan Boldin, WR, DET (22%); Kendall Wright, WR, TEN (11%); Breshad Perriman, WR, BAL (2%); Ladarius Green, TE, PIT (10%); Hunter Henry, TE, SD (17%); Austin Hooper, TE, ATL (3%).

Deep-League Adds

Marquess Wilson, WR, CHI (1% owned). I've always liked Wilson's height/speed combo; he reminds me of Marvin Jones. He's back from the PUP list and served as Chicago's de facto No. 1 receiver Sunday, though he had a head-clutching drop on a deep ball into the end zone's back corner. But if I'm picking one reserve Bears receiver the next couple weeks, I guess it's Wilson.

Denard Robinson, RB, JAC (0% owned). Yeah, you probably don't want Shoelace., but Chris Ivory suffered a hamstring injury Sunday and T.J. Yeldon was already limited with a bad ankle. Robinson carried the mail (poorly) thereafter against the Buffalo Bills, and would at least be in line for some touches if those other guys miss more time.

J.J. Nelson, WR, ARI (19% owned). Nelson flopped hard in his audition as Arizona's No. 2 receiver a few weeks ago, but John Brown left Sunday's loss with a pulled hamstring and if history is any indication, his absence will be protracted. Michael Floyd is awful. So maybe Nelson gets another try.

Matt Barkley, QB, CHI (1% owned). If you're desperate for help in a two-QB league, Barkley will hope to continue his fourth-quarter magic from Sunday into Week 13's epic clash with the 1-10 49ers. It probably won't go well, but what the hell.

Players listed in previous weeks who are still addable in deep leagues: Rex Burkhead, RB, CIN (4%); Peyton Barber, RB, TB (12%); Akeem Hunt, RB, HOU (1%); Jalen Richard, RB, OAK (14%); Fozzy Whittaker, RB, CAR (3%); Kenneth Farrow, RB, SD (0%); Alex Collins, RB, SEA (3%); Troymaine Pope, RB, SEA (0%); Dontrelle Inman, WR, SD (5%); Adam Thielen, WR, MIN (20%); Kenny Stills, WR, MIA (7%); Eli Rogers, WR, PIT (19%); Marqise Lee, WR, JAC (10%); Cordarrelle Patterson, WR, MIN (7%); Vance McDonald, TE, SF (10%).
