Surreal and serene, Canon Blue's latest video for the single "Beholden" splices together emotionally charged vignettes in one long take. Canon Blue is a moniker for Daniel James and this bold orchestral pop song comes his album Lasso Yo, set for release on October 6 through Temporary Residence. Canon Blue is one to watch, with production credits for acts like Paramore, Wild Cub, Joy Williams, and Nightbeds. Despite the buoyant rhythm of "Beholden," Lasso Yo deals with themes of isolation, anxiety and depression. "My feet are on the road, but it's a lonely road," Canon Blue sings. The video was directed by Jouka Valkama as part of a dance project called See | Obey for the Susanna Leinonen Company in Helsinki.During a phone interview from Nashville, Canon Blue said Lasso Yo has been a long creative journey. "This record—I've been working on it on and off for six years—so it's a lot of these songs that became these little smash out of different periods of my life … I feel like the person who started this record is very different from the person who finished it … This song in particular, the first on the album, naturally felt like the entry point of the record and the themes it encapsulates.
