Watch Former Prime Minister Bob Hawke Rip a Railslide On The New Shearin’ Video

The Sydney lads put Australian politicians on blast in their video for "Budget Cuts".

Shearin' are the kind of fellas you'd imagine throwing down a schooner or two at the pool table at the Carlisle in Newtown. They're a band of crass, unapologetic Inner West Sydney blokes taking on Canberra one song - or frame - at a time.

Comprised of members from indie outfits Peabody and Hightails, the band deliver a truly unique Australian sound that is born out of Sydney's pub culture and struggles against lockout laws. Remnants of Scott and Charlene's Wedding, mixed with that traditional 'Sydney-ness' of You Beauty can be heard while Jeremy Hyland's vocals reel you in with his political commentary and quick, witted humour.

Created by Lewis Farrar and Adam Frazer, the video for "Budget Cuts" digs in at the dickhead culture of Australian politics and the desire for a simpler time when Totally Wild aired in the arvo.

Watch the video below and read a chat we had with the band about enemies, Sydney and the great, beer-lovin' Bob Hawke.

Noisey: With a song titled "Budget Cuts", you make your political stance pretty clear. Who would consider to be your political enemy and why?

Jeremy Hyland: I guess both the two major parties. The two-party preferred system is an outrage and merely a distraction of sorts for the backhanded bullshit these entitled used car salesman kooks are pedalling. The two major parties continually get away with actively fisting the voting public.

You've got the classic Sydney pub rock thing down. How does the inner west reflect in your sound?

I guess there are more pubs out this way that support live music. I reckon you can get away with a bit more in the pub. There was a time in Australian music when people at a pub would flow freely onto the streets, sinkining tinnies and' smoking darts and dancing on the bar without a care in the world. This is actually why we strive to play more live shows in pubs over anywhere else. They're so much more fun and they're synonymous with why we do what we do.

What was the genesis of the video?

What started from a few of the guys being camera shy actually turned out to be something pretty sweet, a giant rolling meme from the genius minds of Lewis Farrar and Adam Frazer. It includes the likes of Hawkie cutting a 50-50 giant rail, Trump ripping some vocals, Hockey strumming his piece, Bill Shorten drumming and Pauline riding her not preferred mode of transport. It's well worth a watch.

Who is your favourite Australian icon?

Bob Hawke, as pictured on our "Cheerin" artwork. Hawke and Keating passed most of the reforms that have transformed Australia's cultural and economic landscape over the past 40 years, laying the groundwork for the standard of living we're all enjoying today. Thankfully, we're no Banana Republic but we can still do sun, sand, sinkin' tins and BBQs with the best of 'em… And let's not forget the man can scull a yardie… Holy shit!
