Meet a Trans Teen Using Letters From Classmates to Fight For His Bathroom Rights, Part 1

Vinnie Holt shares his experience transitioning while in high school in Charlotte, North Carolina—a state notorious for its anti-trans "bathroom bill."

"Youth, Interrupted" is a series on trans teens in the United States whose lives have been dramatically disrupted by anti-trans "bathroom bills" and other political battles. Watch more from the series here.

Vinnie Holt lives in the epicenter of the anti-transgender bathroom debate: Charlotte, North Carolina. He attends a progressive school in a fairly liberal city, but because of contradictions in the law at the state and federal level— as well as a lack of clarity from the government—he and other trans students aren't allowed to use the school's facilities like other students.

In Part 1, we meet Vinnie as he is learning how to fend for himself and find community in a world that is full of obstacles to acceptance.
