Gemini, September 2015

A lot will be on your mind this month, and you'll have a lot you'll want to say… and happily, Gemini, you'll be feeling much sharper than you did in August.

In our monthly horoscopes, we provide a more in depth look at what's happening in the sky. If you are not a Gemini and/or don't care about Gemini, you can read the rest of our monthly horoscopes here.

Your most widely recognized quality, Gemini, is your wit. You are ruled by Mercury, the planet of communication. You are talkative and curious; plus, your element is Air, meaning you're intellectual, social, and flexible. You're one of the most interesting, well-read, intellectual, social people anyone could meet, and you know it. Or at least you did until this weird, slow, and confusing summer came along.

Venus, planet of love, prosperity, and beauty has been retrograde since July 25, spending most of its retrograde time in Leo—the sign of glitz and glamour, the sign that rules the heart. Leo stands out from the crowd. You've always known what make you stand out: your mind. But with Venus retrograde in the sign of creativity and, basically, feeling special, you may have started feeling unlike yourself. You've spent the last few months being unsure, unclear, hazy, and not as sharp as you used to be.

Your conversation skills may have taken a nosedive, or perhaps you weren't able to get past the first page of any of the books you tried reading on the beach. Your brain is fried, but I promise your genius will return soon. Venus turns direct on September 6, so your mind will get in order shortly after. Any frustrations you've had around communication will clear up, too—perhaps there's a message you're waiting on? The last time Venus went retrograde in Leo was the summer of 2007. Do you seen any connections between then and now?

Before we move on from Venus, I do have one other transit I would like to touch on: September 1 begins with Mars (which is also in flashy Leo) meeting with Venus. When these two meet, there are normally major fireworks; however, as we know, Venus isn't feeling too hot in Leo, so this meeting will be bittersweet. Mars and Venus won't have time for a warm embrace; they're just doing a breif high-five as they pass each other, moving in different directions.

Anyway, we know all this Venus retrograde stuff is hitting you where it hurts: around communication. If you're conscious and careful during your conversations on September 1, things will go smoothly. This isn't the last of Mars that Venus will see this year—they meet again on November 3, but they'll be in Virgo then. At that time, you'll be working on finding some wholeness in your home and family life. But first, you've got to get through the rest of September.

Mercury, your ruling planet, is in Libra, a fellow Air sign, all month. On September 9, there's a little drama: Mercury squares Pluto, the planet of power and transformation. When Pluto gets involved in a tense scenario, you can bet on power plays, manipulation, and generally shady behavior. Be prepared for some completely bananas requests from your friends, the people you party with, or whomever you flirt with. They may ask for something from you that costs way too much—by requesting an insane amount of cash, or asking you to do something emotionally, psychologically or spiritually compromising. You can use this vibe for good: therapy is an excellent way to use the powerful Pluto vibes. Creating art is another good use of this energy.

Expect a part two to this story later in the month, on September 24, when Mercury and Pluto clash in the same way yet again. This could be a continuation of the conversation on September 9, or perhaps, the cosmos will toss another test your way. Plus, on September 25—the very next day!—Pluto will go direct. Expect some forward motion, some change or development, around this story on that date.

Back to mid-month: There's a New Moon solar eclipse in Virgo on September 13! Eclipses are magical, intense, sometimes freaky but always fated-feeling events, during which we get to see things in a new light. Eclipses tend to tear things (and people and places) apart if they're no longer working. In return, though, something new usually enters our lives. This eclipse in introverted Virgo will find you considering your safe, sacred spaces. How's your home? What's going on with family? Do you hate your roommates? Expect some major new beginnings around these themes, thanks to the eclipse. You might also find that you're feeling drawn to a new creative endeavor, or a new lover, or a new path on the pursuit of happiness… will you chase it? We have another eclipse later this month, but first let's talk about September 17, which will be one of the busiest days of the year.

September 17 brings a whole lot of planetary movement: Mercury turns retrograde in lovely Libra; Jupiter in realist Virgo opposes Neptune in dreamy Pisces; and Saturn enters Sagittarius. Because you're ruled by Mercury, those retrogrades are a special thing for you. This fall's retrograde is in Libra, the sign of partnership and harmony. Since Mercury is all about communication, you'll find that you'll be talking about these Libran things very often. And, because Mercury is retrograde, this talk will be more about reconsidering, reflecting, and renegotiating. Your friends might grow exhausted of you talking about the same old crush or project over and over, but that's just what this transit will be like. We had a Mercury retrograde in Libra last autumn as well, so think back to what you were doing in October 2014 for some hints on how everything will play out this time around. Oh, and definitely watch out for exes and past crushes—they will be everywhere.

The Jupiter/Neptune opposition will be eye opening. Expect some delusions you have around work, home, and the balance of the two to be dashed. Have you been lying to yourself about your career lately? And has this been triggering issues at home, or around you feeling like you have enough privacy? The eclipse earlier this month has already highlighted some important issues around home and family for you to consider, but the Jupiter/Neptune showdown will cement your need to really deal with the situation. You won't be able to un-see the truth that's revealed to you today. Both Jupiter and Neptune are philosophical, spiritual planets, so the revelations that you have today will be deep.

Finally, Saturn is shifting signs, leaving mysterious Scorpio and entering optimistic Sagittarius on September 17, where it will stay until December 17, 2017. This is also super exciting! Saturn is the taskmaster of the zodiac; whatever sign he's in, we know we'll have to tackle serious obstacles in this area. Sagittarius is the sign of exploration, expansion, and philosophy. Saturn loves maturity—so rather than approaching these themes like an unhinged college kid on spring break, embrace Saturn and be as adult as possible: Spend frugally, pack wisely, and take your elders, super seriously.

Interestingly, Sagittarius is the sign that's opposite yours on the zodiac wheel. Whenever we deal with opposites in astrology, we know we'll also be dealing with relationships. Expect to jump over plenty of hurdles when it comes to commitments, romantic or otherwise, but do keep in mind that your hard work will pay off. If you're responsible, you'll be able to achieve whatever your heart desires while Saturn goes through Sag—be it a commitment, romantic relationship, or a solid business partnership.

Our second eclipse of the month falls on September 27, a Full Moon lunar eclipse in Aries. This will be mega illuminating around your social life, your goals, and those you associate with while you're trying to reach those goals. Be prepared to let go of a few contacts and perhaps experience some drama along the way. Through all this heavy, intense eclipse energy, it's important that you remain centered. The best way you can maintain your calm during this hectic time is to find new ways to have fun and to express your creativity. I know it sounds too simple to be true, but it is: New passions are on the way, but you'll miss out on them if you get sucked into other people's drama (a strong likelihood with this eclipse). Aries, the sign this Full Moon is in, is a youthful, bright energy. Pay attention to who seems insecure about you wanting to protect your inner child.

The month ends with the Sun in Libra conjunct your ruling planet, Mercury on September 30. A lot will be on your mind, and you'll have a lot you'll want to say… and happily, Gemini, you'll be feeling much sharper than you did at the beginning of the month. Yes, Mercury's retrograde, so maybe you'll break a sweat or stutter a bit, or spill some gossip you weren't meant to, but whatever. Talking, thinking, learning, and exchanging ideas are your thing, and that's never going to change.
