Halloween means a barrage of celebrities wearing costumes from Trashy Lingerie, but many stars have experienced far spookier Hollywood phenomenons than Heidi Klum's annual Halloween party. Several celebrities claim to have experienced encounters with the paranormal, from hauntings involving insidious spirits to sexual visits from Elvis's ghost. "There are many theories about different paranormal happenings or psychic phenomena," paranormal expert Alexandra Holzer told Broadly. "A ghost is a being that cannot move on, confined to exist in a self created hell. The things that trap us in life: greed, rage, fear, obsession, despair can trap us in death." Here are a few celebrities who have lived through brushes with the other side.

Anna Nicole Smith

Before she found fame, the iconic star claimed a ghost would often climb up her leg while she slept. The ghost would then fuck Smith, but instead of considering the sex a violation, she enjoyed her dalliances with the spirit: "I was freaked out about it, but then I was, like, 'Well, you know what? He's never hurt me, and he just gave me some amazing sex so I have no problem.'" Screwing a ghost is impressive, but Paz de la Huerta later took ghost sex a step further when she slept with a famous ghost. The Boardwalk Empire actress claimed Elvis gave her an orgasm on her visit to Graceland. "I went to [Elvis's] recording studio because sometimes the sensitive people feel him in this room, and I stood in this corner, and I felt him," she said. "What can I say? I felt him touch me. I mean, come on, he's a ghost… It was like Elvis was tickling me with a feather."

Lady Gaga

American Horror Story might have put Gaga on the map as a horror star, but the singer has allegedly battled the paranormal for years. A harmless ghost named Ryan reportedly harassed Gaga, following her from place to place. She eventually held a seance with friends. Since then, she has allegedly bought a $47,000 electromagnetic field meter to detect ghosts and reportedly employed paranormal experts to send ghostbusting equipment to a concert venue before she performed.

Demi Lovato

Lovato has claimed that the benevolent ghost of a little girl named Emily has haunted her childhood home, where she saw Emily around the house for years. The former Disney star has also boasted of her ability to feel paranormal presences, telling BuzzFeed, "I think I have a really strong connection to the afterlife. My mom's friend is a medium, and we've talked about things… Stuff will just happen. When I walk into a room, I can tell if something has happened there or not, or if a hotel is haunted." A photo even made the rounds of Lovato onstage in front of an allegedly ghostly presence, causing fans to cry that the star was haunted, although paranormal experts believe the image is probably the result of a lens flare.

Ariana Grande

The angelic donut-licking chanteuse claims a demon followed her after she visited a haunted castle in Kansas City. "I felt this sick, overwhelming feeling of negativity … and we smelled sulfur, which is the sign of a demon, and there was a fly in the car randomly, which is another sign of a demon," she told Complex. "I was like, 'This is scary, let's leave.' I rolled down the window before we left and said, 'We apologize. We didn't mean to disrupt your peace.' Then I took a picture and there are three super distinct faces in the picture—they're faces of textbook demons." Grande claims she was unable to share the photo of the demons because she deleted the 666 megabyte file from her phone. She said a mass of black matter haunted her before she deleted the images, and she heard demonic whispers. Seeing demons, of course, is a known tradition for Florida natives like Grande.

Joan Rivers

Fans knew that the late, great Joan Rivers owned an opulent New York City apartment, but few people knew a ghost may have haunted the home. After Rivers moved in, she noticed the apartment was always cold. Her dog refused to go inside, and Rivers once found strange writing written on the walls. Her doorman identified the writing as the work of "Mrs. Spencer," the niece of J.P. Morgan, who once owned the home. Rivers eventually hired a "Jewish voodoo priestess" to clear out the apartment's spiritual energy. According to Holzer, such encounters are common place: "Sometimes if someone is open and sensitive enough, they could enter an environment like a hotel room or someone's home for the first time and begin to pick up something upon entering: a vibe of energy, either negative or positive."

Hillary Clinton

The woman who could be our nation's next president also may have communed with spirits as a first lady. According to Bob Woodward, Clinton and spiritual advisor Jean Houston would commune with Eleanor Roosevelt and ask the famous first lady for advice. Houston denied the conversations ever took place, telling the New York Times, "We were using an imaginative exercise to force her ideas, to think about how Eleanor would have responded to a particular problem. I have never been to a seance." Still, the Clintons admit to some sort of conversation, whether real or imaginary, taking place between Hillary and Eleanor. The refutation hasn't stopped conspiracy theorists and conservative Christians from claiming that Clinton is a necromancer.

As of press time, none of the allegedly haunted celebrities listed have returned Broadly's request for comment.
