People Keep Getting Thrown Out of Jeff Sessions' Hearing for Calling Him Racist

A spate of activist groups, including the NAACP, the ACLU, and Planned Parenthood, have vehemently come out in opposition of Sessions' nomination (and the hearing process in general, which Democrats have alleged was intentionally and disastrously rushed). "It's no wonder that Sen. Sessions kicks off the week-long marathon of speed nominations, since his record wouldn't withstand the light of day if given a full public vetting," said Ilyse Hogue, the president of NARAL Pro-Choice America, in a statement. "Sen. Sessions' record of misogyny and racism makes him unfit to serve in this—or really any—position."

Indeed, Sessions has a documented history of targeting black activists, of voting against laws that would protect women from violence, and of openly discriminating against LGBT people, to name a few. As he's questioned on his troubling record, several activists are making a last-ditch effort to point out that he is "racist," "evil," and "a fascist pig," to name a few things that have been shouted in the hearing.

Here's a list of the most notable disruptors who have been kicked out for protesting Sessions' appointment to Attorney General:

The first protests started early in Sessions' hearing, right when he entered the chamber: Two men, dressed in white hooded outfit like a Klansman with foam fingers that read "Go Jeffie Boy," were removed after standing up and mocking the proceedings. As one of the men was being forced out, he shouted, "You can't arrest me, I'm white! White people don't get arrested!"

A Code Pink protestor—holding a sign that said "Support civil rights, stop Sessions"—was escorted out after she laughed when Sessions was being praised for his civil rights record. "Why am I getting taken out of here? This man is evil," she said as she was being forced out of the hearing.

During Sessions' opening remarks, a woman yelled, "Stop this fascist pig from getting into power!"

Two protestors started chanting "No Trump, no KKK, no fascist USA" when Sessions was being questioned by Sen. Lindsay Graham, and he said he supported capturing and killing alleged terrorists without due process.

A man was escorted out of the hearing for speaking out against Sessions' anti-immigrant record: "You have actively gone against pro-immigrant legislation that would keep my family together," he shouted at Sessions. "You are anti-immigrant. You are supported by hate groups… You are not a good Attorney General."

In all, according to some estimates, at least 13 protesters have been removed. That number is likely to continue as people grapple with the impending terror of Trump's administration.
