At the annual Conservative Political Action Conference, otherwise known as CPAC, most Republican women paired their outspoken opinions with understated footwear.
Photographer Chuck Grant has snapped gang members, the Kardashians' makeup artist, and pop stars' super fans. She loves subcultures, so over the weekend we sent her to the annual Conservative Political Action Conference, otherwise known as CPAC, to learn what drives a young woman to go GOP. (What's more fringe than millennial girls who hate abortion and love Ted Cruz?) Chuck came back from the gathering with one major takeaway: Like Mia Thermopolis in The Princess Diaries, conservative women love nude shoes.
"They go with everything," explained a 20-something CPAC attendee named Cecilia. "I just packed a bunch!" Although there's little diversity in the Republican party, RINO women's nude footwear came in a variety of materials: plastic, cloth, leather, faux leather, metallic faux leather. Some women wore theirs with bows. Others opted for rhinestones. Most loved Tory Burch. Only a few women strayed from the uniform, in Ugg boots or black high heels. Those women are not included in the photos below.
