How to Keep Saturn From Making You Feel Depressed and Directionless

Scorpio season is here, and curmudgeonly Saturn is entering equally curmudgeonly Capricorn soon—we're going to have a lot to deal with this coming month.

Struggling with all the feelings you've tried to stuff away? Scorpio season is here to dig them up. Having trouble getting organized? Saturn will enter Capricorn soon, and shit will hit the fan. Ready to take a risk? The cosmic weather supports you this month. Our resident astrologer Annabel Gat supports you, too, and she's here to answer your questions!

Dear Annabel,
I am a Libra in a relationship with a Taurus. We'll be together for three years this November. Things have been getting pretty serious, and we are considering moving in together. I would love to some day have a house with someone, but I'm not sure this is the right relationship. Our main issue is communication. We tend to focus our energy on little, insignificant problems and bury down the deep-rooted issues, and we also get very defensive towards each other. When we do try to fix the bigger things, it usually ends in disaster.

I'm personally ready to get out on my feet, but when he asks me I feel hesitant. I'm still living at home, but, especially lately, I've felt a strong drive to work on my personal life and goals. Is this just a period of indecision, or may my gut be telling me something?

— Confused Libra

Dear Confused Libra,
It doesn't sound like you're being indecisive—it sounds like you know exactly what you need to do, but you're having a hard time accepting the choices you want to make. Perhaps because you're a diplomat, Libra, you're having a hard time working out how you will reject this Taurus without hurting his feelings or potentially ending the relationship.

Having problems communicating is a valid reason not to want to live with someone. You two are having problems with burying your issues, so it's wise not to rush into anything. That said, it's Scorpio season, which means it's an amazing time for you to work out these deep-rooted problems!

Not only is it Scorpio season: Jupiter, the planet of good luck, is going to be in Scorpio until November 8, 2018, making this entire next year an ideal time to look beneath the surface emotionally. Why is that? Scorpio isn't afraid to dig through complicated emotions, no matter how messy they may be. Detective work, psychoanalysis, and even garbage disposal are all themes ruled by Scorpio. Prepare to do some investigating, analyzing, and purging during Scorpio season and throughout the next year. Pay extra close attention to the new moon in Scorpio on November 18. A fresh start will arrive, and you just may be able to work your issues out!

Until then, getting on your own two feet and accomplishing your own goals sounds like a great idea. It's also something that will ultimately make your relationship stronger. The stronger you are and the more life experiences you give yourself, the more you'll have to bring to the table in your relationships. Worry about moving in together when your communication issues have been smoothed out—and if they end up being insurmountable, you shouldn't feel bad about moving on. If you can't communicate clearly, you'll never be able to make things work!

In the meantime, work on your own goals, and don't settle for a partner who can't cheer you on as you do.

Dear Annabel,
For nearly nine years now, I've been grappling with a feeling of not being able to find what I want to do in life, of struggling with my academics, of learning lessons in life the hard way. I think my biggest problem is that I often have difficulty finishing what I've started. I quit very easily, at the first sight of an obstacle in my path.

I am not sure what will become of my life, and my confidence levels are low. I am highly doubtful that I'll ever land a job once I finish my studies, or even if I'll ever be able to complete the course I've taken up. There are a few people whose happiness (to some extent) depends on my happiness and well-being. It would be heartbreaking to see them disappointed because of me, but I just don't know how to get out of this vicious cycle of lethargy, depression, and whatever the hell is happening right now.

I just want to know if this feeling is going to last forever, or if there will be an end to all of this. I also wonder if the path I'm going in now is the right one—in love, life, and academics.

— Lost Taurus

Dear Lost Taurus,
As an Aries, I have plenty of problems finishing what I start—that's very typical for my sun sign. This, however, is totally unusual for a Taurus, a sign known for it's steadfastness (and stubbornness!). That said, no matter what sign you are, here is something I know to be true: If you're not passionate about something, it's very hard to stay focused on it. Sure, we all have small tasks and chores we need to do each day that don't inspire us, but when it comes to academics— classes that last for weeks, projects that take months—your heart needs to be in it. Perhaps it's time you change your focus at school, Taurus? Find something you really love, sometime you can't help but finish because it's all you want to do!

Saturn—the planet of commitment and confinement, rules and regulations, fears and obstacles—has been in Sagittarius, a Fire sign associated with knowledge, learning, and communication, for the last two-and-a-half years. Archetypically speaking, this may be why you're having a difficult time with your studies: Saturn puts limitations on the themes relating to whatever sign it's in. On December 19, 2017, Saturn leaves Sagittarius and enters Capricorn, where the energy will be less focused on learning, and more on teaching everyone how to be responsible and competent. Perhaps by then you'll have a better idea of what major you should take on, and you may also begin learning about how to better structure your time. (Saturn and Capricorn are both energies that rule time, planning, structure, and boundaries.)

Good luck, Taurus!
