The Freak Show: Grime, Glitter and Girl Power at Barbee Bdubs' Fashion Show

You may not know the names Brittnay DeShields and Iris Barbee Bonner, but if you saw the 2015 MTV Video Music Awards, you know their work. The Philadelphia-based pair behind the clothing line Barbee Bdubs designed the jumpsuits worn by Amber Rose and Blac Chyna that sparked a firestorm of debate about feminism and slut shaming. The Barbee Bdubs creations were emblazoned with the words "bitch", "gold digger", "fag" and "slut"—"It really turned out to be a good message," said DeShields.

"The Freak Show," the designers' first collaboration and collection, was created in just four weeks after the VMAs. "It's women's empowerment. That's what I would call it," said Bonner of the designs' girl-power message. "You've got to be really confident, you know, to wear certain things that I have."
