We met up with the undeniably cool Bibi Bourelly on the steps of the Museum of Natural History following her performance at the Roots Festival in NYC. Living up to her hype, Bibi is sharp, magnetic, and true to her musical persona—'can't nobody tell her she ain't real, no.'
People seem to obsess over young people doing big things; so much so that a young celebrity's age often overshadows their accomplishments. For 22-year-old Bourelly—who has already worked with the likes of Rihanna, Kanye, and Usher—age is irrelevant. "I'm very serious about what I do," she tells us. The Berlin-born singer gained major momentum after being credited with writing Rihanna's "Higher" and "Bitch Better Have My Money," and releasing her first two singles, "Riot" and "Ego," in 2015. Bourelly is sharp, magnetic, and carries a rare, mature confidence. She's the type of artist who won't compromise herself for her audience, regardless of the crowd. True to someone who's always known who they were, Bourelly is still close with a lot of the friends she grew up with in both Germany and Maryland. And although she says she wishes she could bring them everywhere with her, right now she is focusing all her attention on her work. "I love it, you know what I mean?"When Bourelly isn't on stage, she's writing and collaborating with several artists; she's all about setting the right vibes during her pre-show. We asked Bourelly to share the "hype playlist" she uses to get her and her audience amped before she performs.
