Leo, January 2018

The spotlight is on you this month, thanks to an eclipse in your sign. How will you weather so much astrological drama?

The best way for you to start the New Year is with plenty of rest. There’s a full moon—a super moon, in fact—in sensitive Water sign Cancer, illuminating the sector of your chart that rules solitude and sleep. You need to unwind and forget about your responsibilities for a bit! Full moons are time for release, so any emotions you’ve been stuffing away will come to the surface.

Your focus will be on your private, personal life and your inner world. You’ll feel inspired by hidden places, and you’ll learn some secrets: Expect some powerful revelations. Use this time to reconnect with your inner voice. You’re busy as hell during Capricorn season, so carve out as much quiet time as you can during this full moon in Cancer.

The year opens with a cluster of planets hanging out in hardworking Earth sign Capricorn: the Sun, Venus, Saturn, and Pluto, which will soon be joined by Mercury on January 11. January 8 through the 10th will find your ruling planet, the Sun, busy. It’ll make helpful connections with Jupiter on the 8th, with Venus and Pluto on the 9th, and with Mars on January 10. The energy will be productive and powerful. Things will start moving forward, especially at work and around your daily chores and responsibilities.

You’ll feel reinvigorated and inspired to get organized, but watch out for January 14, when the Sun clashes with rebel planet Uranus, bringing up some unexpected inconveniences and putting everyone in an irritable mood. Things usually don’t go as planned when Uranus is around.

A new moon arrives in Capricorn on January 16. This is a fantastic time for you to refocus on your physical health, break bad habits, and to recommit to self-care. You can expect a fresh start at work—this is a great time to rework your schedule, Leo. Capricorn is a focused, determined sign. What goals are you eager to reach? Use the energy of the new moon to propel you forward!

If you’re letting your partnerships define you, you’ll find this eclipse to be especially difficult. Expect a major emotional release around how you view yourself.

The energy shifts as Aquarius season begins, turning your focus from your work and health to your relationships: Venus enters Aquarius on January 17, followed by the Sun on January 19 and Mercury on January 31. Love-beauty-and-money planet Venus’s entry into cool Aquarius will bring blessings to your partnerships, and people will be eager to get along. Also, Mercury will find your partners in a chatty mood, so expect plenty of communication to come your way.

Mars enters fellow Fire sign Sagittarius on January 26, revving up a very exciting sector of your chart! You’ll be energized to party, flirt (hot sex is likely, if you're on the look-out for it!), and make art. Watch out for things to heat up with a crush—Mars is passionate as hell. Creative inspiration will be flowing, and you’ll be excited to produce the works you’re dreaming up.

The month wraps up with a second full, super moon (a blue moon!). On January 31, there’s a lunar eclipse in your sign, Leo. This is absolutely as dramatic as it sounds. Full moons are emotionally and physically draining enough as it is, but eclipses are even heavier, so don’t overbook yourself. Yes, Aquarius season will find you focused on your relationships, but this eclipse will ask you to focus in on your favorite subject: yourself.

If you’re letting your partnerships define you, you’ll find this eclipse to be especially difficult. If you’re doing things to make other people happy—your parents, teachers, lovers—you’ll be in for a big wake-up call. Eclipses reveal things to us about ourselves that we previously couldn’t see, and what you learn may shock you. Expect a major emotional release around how you view yourself.

Eclipses occur in pairs, twice a year, and their purpose is to make sure we’re on the correct path toward our destiny—the further off the rightful track we’ve veered, the more intense the eclipse will feel. For many Leos, your destiny is to be in the spotlight, either as a performer or creator, or as a leader, mentor, or teacher. Your planetary ruler is the Sun, and you’re the guiding light for your many friends and fans. You’re going to let go of whatever’s not you during this eclipse, Leo, and will learn to embrace what is.

Good luck this month, dear lion, and see you in February!
